“Talagang aasikasuhin ka”: It’s Showtime Breadwinner Contestant Ethan receives the care he deserves at Shinagawa Diagnostic
After his recent appearance on It’s Showtime’s “And the Breadwinner Is” segment, Christian Calabines, fondly known as Ethan, visited Shinagawa Diagnostic with his mother to receive their gift of complimentary executive health checkups.
Ethan captured the hearts of viewers with his story, sharing his inspiring journey of being the backbone of his family for nearly 11 years.
“2013 po kasi namatay tatay ko, so [dun] nagsimula. Tapos, nanay ko naman na-stroke. Kasalukuyan nag-aaral ako ng college at yung tuition na pinapadala sa akin ng tita ko, hinatati ko para sa [pamilya ko]. Para kahit papaano makatulong po.”
These life-changing events left a void that Ethan, despite being the youngest, bravely chose to fill. After graduating, he immediately took on various jobs, which included becoming an office staff member, driving instructor, cashier, and finally, his current role as a personal driver.
While stories like these are often applauded for their hardwork sacrifices, the weight of their responsibilities can sometimes come at a cost. Ethan, and many other breadwinners, tend to neglect their own needs, particularly their health, as they focus entirely on providing for their families.

To make sure Ethan’s health is well cared for, he underwent the Platinum Shinagawa Dock. This health package, featuring procedures like a chest CT scan, focuses on respiratory health, which is essential in monitoring the effects of vehicle emissions, pollution, and allergens that can impact his well-being as a driver.
Meanwhile, his mother, Lucena, opted for the VIP Shinagawa Dock, a health package recommended for her age to detect chronic conditions like cardiovascular diseases. It includes critical tests such as Chest and Abdominal CT Scans, Brain MRI, Brain MRA, and Neck MRA, which are encouraged considering her previous stroke.
With both of them experiencing Japanese-standard healthcare and advanced equipment for the first time, Ethan shared how he initially felt overwhelmed and nervous. However, thanks to our warm and accommodating staff, his preventive health journey turned into a positive one, leaving both him and his mom feeling truly reassured and happy.
“Sa mga centers lang [po kasi kami madalas nagpapatingin]. Sa una syempre kabado kasi first time so wala pa akong experience sa mga machine-machine pag nagc-checkup pero okay naman pala siya, napakasaya.”

While it’s rewarding to see our loved ones appreciate our efforts, Ethan’s story serves as a powerful reminder that we must also look out for ourselves as well. It’s very important to remember that health is our most valuable asset, and taking the time to make sure everything is in check helps us perform better and support those who rely on us.
After all, to truly care for others, we must first take care of ourselves.
